Luke 12:40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
This is the fifth in the “Be Ye Therefore…” series. Christ had just told His followers not to seek after the riches of this world which are temporal but to seek the kingdom first and then says “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Then the parable starts with blessed are the servants whom, when their lord returns, he finds them watching or ready for him. (By the way these two thoughts are related, for earthly treasure often keeps us from watching or even loving His appearing) He goes on to say that if the good man of a house knew exactly what hour the thief would come, he would have prevented him from breaking into the house. He would have been waiting in that specific hour to catch the thief.
Be Ye Therefore Ready Also – A Message to Both Lost and Found
One of my greatest desires is that everyone that listens to the sound of my voice each time I teach or preach is ready to meet the Lord. We don’t know exactly when our Lord and Savior is returning but we know He is coming again and that time is close. There are indeed people who are lost and therefore they are not ready to meet the Lord. In fact, they won’t meet Him till He comes down in judgment to them. It seems in our modern day, we have lost our sense of urgency to get the gospel out to the lost and dead world around us. If we truly believe that our Lord is coming soon, shouldn’t that cause us to have a desire to get the truth to as many people as possible?
Being ready does not just mean saved but also to not be ashamed. We who are saved need to be ready, have our spiritual house in order, and stay busy about the Father’s business so that when our Lord does return we won’t be ashamed at His appearing. Think about who Christ is talking to here in this passage…His followers. If you would desire to be one of the blessed servants of God, be ready for His return.
2John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
2Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Final Thought: Fire Insurance Doesn’t Cover Acts of God
I had a preacher friend of mine tell me this week of an associate pastor acquaintance of his and how they were discussing current events around the world right now. He mentioned to this associate pastor that he truly believes the Lord is returning soon. The associate pastor looked at him frankly and said, “That scares me…” I told my friend that the Lord’s return will reveal the hireling and the shepherds. It will also reveal who really and truly is saved and who took out an old Fire Insurance Policy at an altar somewhere, sometime in the past. The fact is the Lord knows them who are His.(II Timothy 2:19) And many will find that their spiritual ‘Fire Insurance Policy’ does not cover Acts of God, but Blessed Assurance does. In fact it is an act of God. 🙂
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, (2Peter 3:10-11) Be ye therefore ready to meet your Lord church!
