Reflection…

27 Sep

Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!  Today marks the one year anniversary of this blog and I am thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to serve Him.  One year ago today I posted my first blog post and felt led to call it ‘Think on These Things…’.  As Christians we are a part of the same spiritual body and are instructed in God’s word to consider or esteem one another more than ourselves.  We should seek to do and say those things which are spiritually edifying to each other.

The word edify means to instruct or improve someone spiritually or intellectually.  Over the past year, it has been my prayer that this blog will be a blessing and spiritually edifying to the reader.  I have also been blessed to have a good Christian brother agree to come on board and contribute posts under the pen name ‘The Servant’.  The Lord continues to use him in writing posts that are both timely and encouraging.  In these last days, we need to try to do more for our savior Jesus Christ and also more to be a help to one another.

I thought, in a way of marking the day, I would conclude this post with a copy of the very first post that started it all last year.  I hope and pray that this blog has been a blessing to all and will continue to be a digital means of spreading the truth of God’s word.  I would also like to hear feedback from you so please feel free to leave a comment below.  Thank you to the 224 followers of the blog and ‘The Servant’ and I both pray to reach many more in order that, ultimately, we might bring glory to Christ and be found pleasing to Him.  God bless and enjoy the article below…

“The fox condemns the trap, not himself.” (William Blake from the poem “The Marriage of Heaven and Hell”)

We often lament circumstances that our flesh and our sin gets us into.  The Bible says the “wages of sin is death” but the god of this world took Marketing 101 a long time ago.  John warned that all that is in the world is “the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” and these are the ONLY traps the devil has in his arsenal.

Unfortunately due to our own sinful natures, the devil need no longer bother baiting or even hiding these ‘traps’ when he lays them on the forest floor of our wildernesses.  We often go trudging along leaving not only the whole armor of God at home, but often trying to travel without Him.  Then we stumble into one of these ‘traps’ and as Blake said, ‘we condemn the trap, and not ourselves’.  The Apostle Paul said in Romans 7, “I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.”  The greatest way that we can gain the proper perspective when we find the ‘traps’ closed tightly around one of our ankles is to remind ourselves of this great truth, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing…”  It will even prevent you from falling into the ‘trap’ in the first place because if you realize your nothing without Him, you won’t want to leave home without Him and His blessing nor will you want to rely on your own understanding.

If you don’t know the Lord Jesus as your savior then “the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (IICor. 4:4)  The devil is fooling you into thinking your free but you’re in bondage to the ‘traps’ of sin.  You don’t have control of it, Satan, the father of lies, has control over you.  John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”  BUT, I have GOOD NEWS!!  Jesus can free you from these traps of sin and make you a new creature in Him!  AND… “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”  Praise the Lord.

Let those who know the Lord Jesus walk in the light and not in darkness.  Let us seek to flee the appearance of evil and not give the devil occasion to have victory in even the smallest parts of our lives.  To God be the glory.  AMEN!
